Michael Bozhyi (1911-1990) was born in Nikolayev. In 1933 graduated from Nikolayev College of Culture and Art.

He was a People’s Artist of the USSR since 1963, a full member of USSR Academy of Art since 1962. He worked in all painting genres. In 1974 the artist received the Taras Shevchenko USSR State Prize. M. Bozhyi was an acknowledged classical painter of the socialist realism and a master of a portrait.
