This exhibition presents more than seventy graphic works by Serhii Shyshko (1911–1997), one of Ukraine’s leading 20th-century artists, People’s Artist of Ukraine and the USSR, and laureate of the Taras Shevchenko State Prize.

Drawings in pencil and charcoal, created between the late 1920s and 1980s, reveal a rarely seen side of Shyshko’s practice. Usually overshadowed by his paintings, his graphic works served as a laboratory of ideas, where line, rhythm, and form became the foundation of artistic thought. They reflect the discipline of his studies with Fedir Krychevskyi and Boris Ioganson, as well as the influence of Mykhailo Boichuk’s monumental style.

Spanning portraits, landscapes, figure studies, and everyday scenes, these works reveal an intimate and “unpolished” dimension of Shyshko’s art, distant from the official canon of Socialist Realism.

Born in Nosivka, Chernihiv region, Shyshko lived and worked in Kyiv, where he became renowned for his urban views and lyrical landscapes of the Carpathians and Crimea. His works are held in the National Art Museum of Ukraine and numerous regional and private collections.

The exhibition is located in the space of Gallery 88 (Andrevskiy Uzviz 34, Kyiv, Ukraine) and runs from August 28 to September 17, 2025.
